Five boards that quietly run a small business.

You don't need fifty features. You need five boards that do the boring remembering for you — what each one is, the columns to add, and why it earns its place.

Start with one, not five.

Pick whichever board fixes your loudest problem this week. You can add the rest later — most people never need all five.

BOARD 1

The simple CRM

A fancy way of saying "a list of every person who might pay you, and where they are in the conversation." Most small businesses keep this in their head. That works until it doesn't.

Columns: Name · Company · Status (New / Talking / Quoted / Won / Lost) · Deal size · Next step · Next step date

The column that matters is Next step date. Add one automation — "when the date arrives, notify me" — and no lead goes cold because you forgot.

BOARD 2

The content calendar

One board for everything you post — social, blog, email. Each row is one piece moving from idea to published.

Columns: Content piece · Channel · Status (Idea / Drafting / Ready / Published) · Publish date · Link

Switch to calendar view and you'll see an empty week coming before it happens, instead of noticing on Friday.

BOARD 3

Client onboarding

Every new client should get the same smooth first two weeks: welcome email, contract, kickoff call, file access. This board is that checklist, duplicated per client so nothing depends on memory.

Columns: Task · Owner · Status · Due date · Client-facing? (yes/no)

Save it as a template inside monday.com. New client? Duplicate, rename, done.

BOARD 4

The weekly task board

The "what is everyone actually doing this week" board. One group per person, or one per day — whichever matches how your team thinks.

Columns: Task · Owner · Status (Not started / Working on it / Stuck / Done) · Due date

"Stuck" is the underrated one. It turns "I didn't want to bother anyone" into a red block the whole team can see and fix in minutes.

BOARD 5

Invoices & payments

Not accounting software — just a clear list of who owes you money and whether they've paid, so nothing slips into the "I'll chase that later" void.

Columns: Client · Invoice number · Amount · Sent date · Status (Sent / Paid / Overdue) · Follow-up date

Add "when Follow-up date arrives and Status isn't Paid, notify me." Politely persistent, automatically.

Build your first board this week.

The free plan covers two people, and every paid plan has a free trial — so you can build a real board before spending anything.
